Corporate video content with the right post-production can help your small business stand out and establish credibility. Keep reading for our top 3 editing tips to make your corporate video better.

3 Editing Tips to Make Your Corporate Video Better

1) Cuts: Make it Snappy

Simply put, a cut is when one shot ends and another one begins. The video clips may be two different angles or locations or, alternatively, they may be the same clip with bits of footage removed. For multiple reasons, one of our top branded video editing tips is to prioritize using cuts while editing (as opposed to using one long take). First, cuts are great for removing mistakes. The video doesn't have to be perfect; just remember that watching a video full of mistakes and "umms" can be very distracting and does not reflect professionalism. Cutting your footage allows you to remove anything that may take away from the video. Additionally, videos increase viewer engagement. Clips need to be long enough for viewers to process the content, but short enough that they don't get bored. The right use of cuts can perfectly strike this balance.

2) Graphics: Show and Tell

Like cuts, graphics are a great way to split up your video and keep audiences engaged. Just listening to someone rattle off numbers can get really old, really fast. Adding visuals holds viewers' attentions far more than auditory input alone. Graphics are also an ideal method of presenting information in a way that keeps things digestible for viewers. Plus, when people are able to both hear and read important details, they're more likely to retain them. Graphics can be as simple as text on the screen, or as complex as animation that interacts with footage. Don't feel pressured to go all-out on graphics when editing your corporate videos. There are plenty of simple templates available for free in your editing software to get you started.

3) Color: Bring the Video to Life

No video editing project is complete without coloring the raw footage. Most professional video cameras are designed to capture the widest range of light and information possible. While the resulting raw footage is the ideal foundation for crafting your desired image, it appears flat and gray without Color Grading (taking the flat image and creating a dynamic look for your footage). But what if you're filming your corporate video on an iPhone - do you still need color grading? You might not need "dial in" the exact color look while shooting "faithful" color profile, but you most likely will need to do some Color Correction. Color Correction is when you adjust the color in the video to better reflect real life. Have you ever filmed next to your computer screen and now your face looks blue? Or maybe you were next to a living room lamp and your face looks overly yellow. Color Correction is correcting those colors so your shot looks natural. When making any type of adjustment, remember that each shot's coloring should look the same across all cameras and angles. We highly recommend waiting to do color until the very last step of editing. This prevents you from doing all the work of coloring clips that will later get left on the cutting room floor.
