The Secret to Standing Out Online: Consistent Video Content

While it may be tempting to focus on making videos that go viral, this really isn't the best strategy to boost your small business online. Running your brand's social media page is much different from being an influencer, and different goals require different strategies. Keep reading for the ins-and-outs of how consistent small business videos beat viral posts.

How Consistent Small Business Videos Beat Viral Posts

1) Algorithms Like a Consistent Video Schedule

To run successful social media accounts for your small business, you need to appeal to each site's specific algorithm. While different platforms consider slightly different factors to decide which accounts to boost, they all look for one thing in common: consistent and frequent posting. Social media platforms use algorithms to keep users engaged and coming back for more. If your account doesn't have much content to offer, the algorithm assumes it is an old, outdated, or inactive account. On the flip side, consistent posting signals to the algorithm that your regular content could yield increasing numbers of recurrent users. When the platform knows you're creating regular content to reel in and hold onto viewers, it's more likely to value your account and funnel users your way.

2) You Need to Post More than You Think

A consistent posting schedule isn't enough--your small business's social media posts need to be frequent. We often work with clients who tell us their goal is to post once a month. While that may be a regular schedule, the elapsed time between posts will prevent it from making an impact. Additionally, trends change and go stale quickly on social media. Posting infrequently means missing out on trends and potentially losing relevance. Optimum posting rates vary across platforms, but they're all probably higher than you'd think. The Facebook algorithm favors 1-2 posts per day; X, 3 per day; LinkedIn, 2-5 per week; Instagram, 1-2 reels and 1 image post per day; TikTok, 1-3 per day; and Pinterest, 4-10 per day.

3) Quality Views over Quantity of Views

While a viral post could get you millions of views, if none of those viewers can't access your actual business, the publicity isn't worth much. You may have seen the Jet2 Holiday meme that went viral on Instagram and TikTok in 2025. The sound “Nothing beats a Jet2 Holiday” became a trending sound that users placed in their own videos. The original clip has over 2 million views on YouTube, with the trending sound being used on TikTok more than 1.4 million times. While this could sound like a marketing win, the trend (using the audio ironically over footage of something chaotic or unfortunate) almost instantly got away from the brand. Not only does this leave their brand message entirely misrepresented, but the viral/meme snowball effect indicates that it's far surpassed (and perhaps entirely missed) its target audience. Because Jet2 is a small airline that only services flights within the UK, views in any other location were coming from users who could not buy their service. As a local business, it’s more important that you get 100 local views than 1 million international views; if your message isn't reaching your target audience, it doesn’t matter.
