Steps for Creating a Compelling Corporate Testimonial Video

A corporate testimonial video is professional branded video content that features positive client reviews and recommendations. It's a great way to showcase what your company has to offer, especially for B2B corporations that don't sell tangible products. Corporate video production may sound intimidating, but it's a lot more accessible than you might think. Keep reading for our step-by-step guide on how to sell more with corporate testimonial videos.

1) Step 1: Find Your Ideal Customer
Finding your consumer niche is the first step for all digital marking. Your ideal customer is one who aligns with the goals of your brand and benefits most from your services. A successful video testimonial needs not only to be seen by your ideal customer, but also to feature them; potential clients are more likely to value a testimonial from someone they can identify with. The likelihood of a CFO of a mid-size business being won over by a rave review by an 18-year-old Etsy shop owner is pretty slim--even if they would both be using the same service regardless. When viewers see themselves in the clients providing corporate testimonials, they know they've found the right brand. When determining your ideal customer, you need to consider their type(s) of business; shared challenges, goals, and values; and purchasing and investment decisions, Be sure you select someone who both fits the demographic of your ideal consumer and who had a uniquely positive experience working with your company that demonstrates your core values.
2) Step 2: Plan Your Corporate Video Production
It goes without saying that you'll need to plan out your video testimonial before starting production. However, when capturing a client's genuine experience, it's important not to over-plan their review or tell them what to say. If a testimonial isn't authentically coming from a client, it's obvious to the viewer. Along these lines, we also recommend against having your interviewee write their own script. While we love a good script for a corporate about video, more polished speech comes across as fake in a testimonial video. Instead, come prepared with a variety of questions to ask your client, such as how they felt working with you, what the process was like, why they chose you, and if they would use you again. Regardless of lack of script, the video itself still needs to be polished. Accomplish this by utilizing quality lighting, cameras, and (most importantly!) audio. Poor lighting and audio distract from the actual content and message of your video, preventing viewers from understanding and connecting with the testimonial. When planning the day of the shoot, make sure to give yourself ample time for filming. For a five-minute video, we always schedule 90 minutes for set up and 60 minutes for the interview itself. Trust us: If you don't give the shoot enough time, the client (and crew) will feel rushed and under pressure. Any tension will be reflected in their testimonial, so it's important the production is enjoyable for your interviewee.
3) Step 3: Edit a Longform Video and Shortform Reels
If you read our blogs regularly, you know we are huge proponents of getting the most out of all of your productions. Think double- (or triple-!) dipping to create a variety of content from one shoot. When editing your corporate testimonial video, we recommend starting by creating a 5-minute longform video that includes specific detail to post on both YouTube and your website. This content is perfect for laying out the full customer experience from start to finish, showing viewers exactly what to expect when working with your small business. This longform video ultimately serves to help you make the sale--use it to solidify confidence in your brand and seal the deal. Next, we suggest making multiple 30-second shortform videos. These are concise 1-topic clips that have a great hook, memorable soundbite, and clear call to action. Post this content on LinkedIn to pique the interest of potential clients and show them that you can provide their ideal experience. A quality testimonial video will entice viewers to check out your website, where they'll realize that your brand is perfect for theirs.
