We've got movies to commemorate every occasion, including #WorldStatisticsDay on October 20th. The holiday was created by the United Nations Statistical Commission to underscore the importance of keeping reliable, accessible data. Join us in our celebration of World Statistics Day with these three films.

1) Moneyball (2011)
Moneyball highlights the extensive amount of statistics involved in baseball, following the true story of Oakland Athletics general manager Billy Beane. Brad Pitt plays Beane, who is tasked with assembling a competitive major league team on an extremely limited budget. Early into his search, Beane stumbles upon Peter Brand, a Yale economics grad who had developed a master statistical analysis of every major league baller. Using Brand's sabermetric (yes, there is a term specifically for in-game baseball statistics) system, Beane is able to assemble a successful team of underrated and undervalued players that, when paired together, create an amazing team. The film showcases the extensive player analytics that can drive the success of major league baseball and the overall magic of statistics.
2) The Big Short (2015)
The Big Short gives viewers an inside look into the madness of the 2008 financial crisis. With a star-studded cast and award-winning screenplay, the film has even been described as the best big-screen explanation of the global crisis. To achieve this, The Big Short follows three separate but related stories, in the years leading up to 2008. Viewers join Scion Capital hedge fund manager Michael Burry (Christian Bale) in the discovery that high-risk subprime loans would push the US housing market to collapse (and how he subsequently sets himself up to cash in big). The film also follows the panic of the FrontPoint Partners hedge fund, as manager Mark Baum (Steve Carell) receives a tip that the entire market is about to go under, along with the story of two small investors (John Magaro and Finn Wittrock) who stumble into the world of big banking just as it is crumbling around them.
3) Molly’s Game (2017)
Molly's Game is an adaptation of a memoir by Molly Boom, detailing the world of high-stakes underground poker. After an injury ends her skiing career, Molly (Jessica Chastain) starts working at a club as a waitress. Despite no prior knowledge of the game, she begins managing a coworker's underground poker ring. Fast forward through meticulously learning the ins-and-outs of the entire underground scene: Molly starts her own club, and things get out of hand. After visits from multiple mafias and the FBI, Molly is arrested and indicted, though refuses to release records. With compelling inter-character dynamics as the film's driving force, Chastain's performance is masterful, keeping audiences invested (and kind of wanting to get really good at poker).
