For the past couple weeks, we've been taking a detailed look at how to create a corporate interview video. The first post in the series mapped out pre-production. Last week, we dove into the lights-camera-action of filming your production. Today, our how-to series will cover the ins-and-outs of post-production to create an effective corporate interview video.

1) Editing: Craft a Story
Editing is so much more than simply removing the bad takes; it's a creative process that requires finesse and planning. A skilled editor takes raw footage and determines the right order and timing for each important clip. Another crucial part of the editing process is knowing what to keep and what to leave on the cutting room floor. Sometimes, even quality soundbites will be omitted from a final cut because they slowed the flow of the video. Think of a sculptor: They start with a giant block of marble. Creating a masterpiece requires chipping away from a perfectly good source. Ultimately, it's far more about what they take out than what they leave behind. Video editing is the very same.
2) Cleanup: Adjust Color, Lighting, and Sound
Once you’ve crafted your story, it’s time to clean it up. Quality editing is the top reason professional videos have such distinctly high quality. Rather than presenting raw footage, straight from the camera, professional editors perform color correction. This process both fixes and enhances the colors in the shot. Professionals also adjust highlights and shadows to achieve the perfect balance of contrast. These adjustments make all the difference when creating high-quality interview videos. Editors also need to keep an ear out for audio levels. Even with the best of microphones, audio often needs at least a little cleaning up. Audio should be mixed so that levels are the correct volume, bumps are cut out, and nothing is spiking.
3) Sharing: Post Your Video
This might seem like a no-brainer, but the most important part of a video is sharing it! Nothing breaks our hearts like collaborating on a video with a client, just for them to sit on it. Branded videos are worth the time, money, and energy, but only if you post them. Based on the strategy you mapped out during pre-production, you should already have an idea of where and when you'll be sharing your corporate video(s). As we've mentioned, interview videos are an incredibly versatile form of content that can be adjusted to fit the specs for just about any video platform. A 5-minute video is perfect for your website, LinkedIn, and YouTube; however, it's obviously a bit too long for other social media platforms. Easily get the most reach out of this same content by pulling 30-second clips to post on other social media sites like Instagram and TikTok.
